We are under a month until the Kansas Jayhawks take the field in the football home opener, and that means that Fall Camp has officially begun. This means two very important things are able to happen. First, the coaching St. Louis Blues Jersey staff gets their first real chance to start putting plans into place and evaluate players before the season starts. Second, fans and media get their first opportunities to hear from the staff and players about the preparations being made for the season. There have been three practices so far, and already we have some big takeaways and announcements. The end of the first practice on Tuesday resulted in an announcement that Kansas fans are not used to: the announcement of the starting quarterback for the season opener.Granted, Leipold's statement after the first practice on Tuesday did leave the door open for someone else to win the job, but as we noted in our , Jalon Daniels is the early leader to earn that honor. This really shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that has been paying attention to the Jayhawks since last season, but the final three games of the year served as an unveiling of what Daniels brings to this offense. But fans are used to multiple years of truly wondering who the starting quarterback was going to be, even when the answer seemed obvious.David Beaty routinely delayed his decision until just before the start of the season, either because he didn't want to give away anything to the first few opponents or because none of the options on his team really separated themselves. Les Miles seemed to enjoy the game of making everyone gue s who his starter was going to be. When he did give an indication of what he was thinking, it was difficult to tell if he was being upfront, and the constant changes in offensive coordinators made it difficult to find a clear expectation. And of course, last season was the first year after an extremely shortened offseason, with Fall Camp the first true opportunity for Leipold and staff to evaluate the options that they had. It was completely understandable why it took so long to name a starter for last season. While this is a welcome change, it feels strange at this point.Anyone who has Steven Kampfer Jersey read up on Lance Leipold and his staff at Buffalo is familiar with the idea that his offenses were extremely flexible. Having a rush-heavy offense and a separate pa s-heavy offense in consecutive seasons that both performed well is an oddity in the world of college football. And it looks like that flexibility is going to continue. Leipold indicated that the main goal right now is to identify all the players that are ready to contribute to this team. He especially highlighted the offensive line as a position that they are looking to identify depth that is capable of stepping on the field.Offensive Coordinator Andy Kotelnicki reiterated that they will "making sure that our best personnel are on the field whatever they are. If we've got seven really good offensive lineman we'll have packages for them. If we've got five really good receivers we'll have packages for them."And that commitment to playing any player that can help the team with its goals extends to all positions, including the quarterback. It was evident from Kotelnicki's comments about how "from a skill position standpoint, there's a lot of competition Scott Hartnell Women Jersey and parity" which would allow them to "use multiple personnel groupings in each of them and have a nice little package for everything."And based on comments from both Jalon Daniels and Jason Bean, they both expect to be able to contribute to this offense. There is speculation that Bean will see the field through either special packages designed to take advantage of his skills or by lining up in other positions on the offense. The only thing we know for certain is that the staff is looking for creative ways to get both quarterbacks involved, and that Daniels doesn't appear to be letting the presumption that he will be the starter change his approach. "It doesn't matter Matt Duchene Women Jersey which group I'm running with," Daniels said, "because I'm going to try to keep on trying to get better as a player and keep getting better as a quarterback and as a man."Multiple new players are making their marks early in Fall Camp, drawing rave reviews even though they haven't been working with the staff for very long.Wide receiver Doug Emilien, who joined the Jayhawks in May after spring practices had concluded, has been impre sing both his teammates and coaches. Daniels commented on his ability "to make cornerbacks mi s" and that his is "very smart when it comes to route running," while Kotelnicki mentioned the "unbelievable job with his contested catch ability". I think it's fair to say that I might need to revisit my .And Thursday was the first day of practice for inside linebacker Lorenzo McCaskill, who was just added to the roster today due to some delays surrounding his undergraduate coursework at Louisiana. Despite the delay, it appears that defensive coordinator Brian Borland expects some big things from him. He indicated that he doesn't have "any worry that he won't catch on or he won't fit in."Borland went on to talk about the contributions that are expected from fellow transfers Eriq Gilyard, Craig Young and Tristian Fletcher as the linebacker position Jonathan Bernier Jersey received one of the largest infusions of talent on the roster. And while Kenny Logan Jr. is the Kansas player who has collected the most preseason recognition, Borland expects a lot from Marvin Grant, the redshirt junior who transferred from Purdue. "Marvin is pretty good, a natural football player."There is still a lot of camp to go, but it seems like the Jayhawks are very optimistic about what they are seeing so far. .
